Make Memorial Day memorable, not miserable

PALO PINTO COUNTY – If you plan on taking your holiday weekend party to the water, a reminder on the rules from Texas Game Warden Michael Foster:

  • Each vessel must have one good life jacket for each vessel occupant and one type-four throwable.
  • Each vessel must have its registration (certificate of numbers) on board while the boat is on the water.
  • Each vessel must have a fire extinguisher and a sound-producing device (horn, whistle, etc.).
  • All boats must display navigation lights at SUNSET.
  • PWCs must always have a life jacket on per manufacturer specifications.
  • If a PWC is pulling a tube, those on the tube count towards the occupancy limit of the PWC.
  • PWCs must maintain a 50-foot gap from other watercraft while operating above idle.
  • Wake jumping is illegal in Texas and a main cause of PWC-related injuries.
  • PWCs may not operate past SUNSET.
  • The legal limit for alcohol on the water is the same as in a car, .08. Kids should not be considered designated drivers.
  • Drugs are bad.

Texas Game Wardens will be patrolling every day over the holiday weekend, Foster said.
