Local leaders share New Year's resolutions

PALO PINTO COUNTY – Every year we make them and every year we break them.

Well, most of us do.

Only 9% of Americans who make resolutions complete them, according to Ohio State University reports. Data shows 23% quit their promises for the New Year by the end of the first week, and 43% give it up by the end of January.

We asked some local leaders what their New Year’s resolutions are for 2024. We’ll follow up with them next year to see how they did.

2024 New Year’s Resolutions

Laura Watkins

Elections Administrator

Palo Pinto County

After much thought about what 2024 will bring for me as a person. I could not decide if I wanted to have goals or make resolutions, so I’ve decided to look at it as both.

GOALS and RESOLUTIONS

Send Cards – I miss the feeling of finding these surprises in my mailbox, so I’m starting a new – old trend of sending cards. Be on the lookout one may be coming your way. Having a date day or night with my husband Mike, not just going to dinner but a true date and trying something new. Work on my DIY and TO DO list, it’s long so maybe I’ll pick 12 one a month.

This goal may be my biggest challenge, keeping my car clean. Yes, I am a car slob, to me my vehicle is to get me from A to B. LOL

Working on my selfcare at work, yes, my job is stressful and sometimes I take things happening in our community, state, and our nation to heart. It’s hard not being able to have an opinion on what is happening because laws prevent it. I am going to challenge myself and everyone who reads this to remember to be kind, we are all passionate about things that are important to us. Remember Kindness is always easier.

There have been many close friends and relatives in our area, including myself with the loss of my mom, who have lost a loved one this past year. With that said, below is one that I feel might be a focus for me in the coming year…

Relish every moment and opportunity for a memory and never take time for granted, looking for the positives all around us, to ensure an even more joyful existence.

I don’t do New Year’s resolutions. I kinda figure that if it’s important enough that I need to make a resolution then I should be doing it all the time anyway!
