Palo Pinto County arena hosts High School Rodeo events

MINERAL WELLS — Perrin Rodeo team held their second rodeo in as many years, becoming a favorite among the local high school circuit.

Palo Pinto County Livestock Association Arena was host to the Perrin Rodeo during a recent weekend event which saw 288 high school entries, plus another approximately 20 entries for the peewee rodeo events. There were athletes from all around, including Mineral Wells, Tolar, Fort Worth, Burleson, Azle, and more, as well as hosting Perrin.

Perrin’s own Cameron Tune won the bull riding event, while Marli Donegan placed seventh in breakaway roping, ninth in poles, and tenth in goat tying. Rounding out the finishers for Perrin was Bre Ryburn who took part in the barrel racing and finished 27th.

The Peewee rodeo was an addition to give the younger cowboys and cowgirls a place to compete as well, with events like mutton busting, goat ribbon pulling and stick horse barrel racing. There was also a division for special needs to compete in the goat ribbons and stick horse races. This idea came about after the younger sibling of one of the high school members showed interest in what her brother was doing at rodeos and wanted to be a part of it.

Perrin rodeo will be competing again in Birdville this weekend Oct. 11 and 12 against many of the same area school and competitors.
