PALO PINTO COUNTY — Local softball and baseball teams are chasing their playoff dreams after successful spring seasons.
Mineral Wells Rams
The Rams, led by Jacob Clay in his first year at the head coach position at Mineral Wells, are seeing playoff action for the second consecutive year. They finished second in district play and are set to face off with San Angelo Lake View this weekend. The Rams saw a bit of a late season skid with three consecutive losses but redeemed themselves with an 8-1 victory over Brownwood to end the regular season just in time to prepare for playoffs.
Gordon Longhorns
Gordon is heading into playoff season, a place they know all too well. They finished the regular season 14-4, including four consecutive wins for a combined score of 51-1 over Blum, Huckabay, and Graford.
The Bi-District matchup will have been played by the time this story is released, scheduled for Wednesday, April 30 against Jonesboro in Stephenville. We will post the results to our Facebook page and website following, as well as include any further playoff game information.
BI-DISTRICT UPDATE: Game 1 -Gordon Longhorns 13 Jonesboro Eagles 4, Game 2-Gordon Longhorns 15 Jonesboro Eagles 5. Gordon Advances to next round.
Graford Jackrabbits
Another team that is no stranger to playoffs, the Jackrabbits, are set to play the bi-district matchup this week before this story will hit shelves. The Jackrabbits and Valley Mills Eagles will face off Thursday in Glen Rose. The ‘Rabbits finished the regular season 10-8, seeing an unfortunate losing streak to end the regular season. They look to turn things around as they begin playoff action.
Millsap Bulldogs
Millsap will head to Graham to face off with Jacksboro for the bi-district round of the playoffs this weekend. The Bulldogs saw a lot of ups and downs throughout the season but ended the season with a five-game winning streak over Eastland, Early, and Dublin and securing their playoff spot.
Strawn Lady Greyhounds
The Lady Hounds earned a matchup for the bi-district title against Jonesboro. The two teams faced off in Weatherford and unfortunately the Lady Hounds saw their season end after a 1-19 loss and finished the season 3-8.
Graford Lady Jackrabbits
Graford softball saw their season end last week in the first round to bi-district champs, Crawford 0-17. The Lady ‘Rabbits snuck into the playoffs with an 8-11 record, finishing fourth in district 13-2A Region II. The Lady Rabbits have been in the playoffs every year since 2019, including three district championships in that time.
Santo Lady Wildcats
The Lady ‘Cats finished the regular season 11-9 which included some big wins late in the season where it seemed their offense and defense were firing on all cylinders, topping Graford 13-4, Ranger 15-0, and Stephenville FAITH 12-2. Unfortunately, the season came to an end for the Santo sluggers when they fille short to Bosqueville in the three-game series of the bi-district matchup.
