Volleyball teams from the area are getting their reps in early, as they kick off their season with weekend tournaments.
The beginning of volleyball season is often, “tournament season,” and for most teams in our area, that stands true. Mineral Wells, Millsap, Perrin, Santo, Graford, and Strawn all saw tournament action last weekend before heading back to their home courts for stand alone matches throughout the week.
Mineral Wells traveled to Abilene and competed against some tough teams, even a few 5A and 6A matchups. They began the tournament with a win over Dallas Hillcrest in close sets, 25-21 and 25-23. Next up was 5A El Paso High School where the Lady Rams fell short, then again in their next match up with 6A Midland.
That led them to the silver bracket, where they made it to the tournament finals with wins over Brownwood, and Sweetwater, before facing Ingram Moore in three sets. They fell just short in the championship game agaisnt Abilene High in two sets. Overall the Lady Rams finished 4-3 and a second place finish.
The Graford Lady Jackrabbits traveled to Breckenridge for tournament action where they saw opponents from Graham, Breckenridge, Albany, Jacksboro, Colorado City, and Abilene Christian. The Lady ‘Rabbits finished pool play undefeated 3-0, and played for the gold bracket, coming away with a first place finish. Two Lady Jackrabbits also earned All-tournament honors, Raylee Cook was named to the All-tournament team, and Kamryn Glover was named All-Tournament MVP.
Strawn earned a tournament championship in their home tournament last weekend. Hosting teams from Ranger, Dublin, Rochelle, Lingleville, Rising Star, and Santo, the Lady Greyhounds came away with the trophy after winning six straight matches.
