Heroes among us

William Montgomery Hill was born to Doris and Monte Hill on Sept. 20, 1915, in Chicago, Illinois. Little did they know that they had just given birth to one who would be involved in planning the invasion of Normandy, France on June 6, 1944, or D-Day as it has become known. Bill, as he was called, grew up moving around. His father was a clothing buyer for large clothing stores and had to go where his work took him. He began college at the University of Oklahoma and, after another move, enrolled in Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas from which he graduated with honors in 1938. After graduation, Bill became an associate buyer for the same large department stores his dad served in Ft. Worth, Texas.
