Toastmasters members from across Area 14 gathered at Tarrant County Plaza for an inspiring and competitive Area 14 Speech Contest, where members of the local Toastmasters club, Something to Talk About, Carla Hay-Purdue and Larry Core, showcased their public speaking skills. Larry Core took first place in the Table Topics Contest, which challenges contestants to think quickly and deliver a structured response to a surprise question.
Leadership Mineral Wells, sponsored by the MW Chamber of Commerce, is an annual nine-month class and is a way for newcomers and old timers alike to get plugged into the community. Beginning some 30+ years ago, the class delves into the history of the county, it’s education and government.
The Palo Pinto County Commissioners Court voted to implement a burn ban at Monday’s meeting. With the ban in place, residents are prohibited from outdoor burning until the order is lifted, including burning brush/tree piles when clearing land.

The Mineral Wells City Council on Tuesday approved an amendment to the right-of-way management provisions that requires contractors working in the right-of-way to not damage trees and other landscaping. The change requires that if an operator alters trees and/or landscaping that it’s done in such a way to preserve the life of the trees/landscaping.
