After having to be rescheduled due to bad weather, the Downtown Mineral Wells Crazy Chili Cook-Off showed why it’s a big draw in town. And some residents showed why their chili is the best.

April 5 – Crazy Kicker Bike Ride, 8 a.m. at 200 W. Hubbard St., Mineral Wells. Riders are invited to the 21st Annual Rotary Crazy Kicker cycling tour across scenic Palo Pinto County.

Happy Spring! Isn’t this a wonderful time of year? Warm sunshine, cool breezes (some breezes are a little stronger than others), new life all around us. The Texas Mesquite trees are budding out along with Bluebonnets, pecan trees, and beautiful wildflowers in every ditch and road shoulder.

Toastmasters members from across Area 14 gathered at Tarrant County Plaza for an inspiring and competitive Area 14 Speech Contest, where members of the local Toastmasters club, Something to Talk About, Carla Hay-Purdue and Larry Core, showcased their public speaking skills. Larry Core took first place in the Table Topics Contest, which challenges contestants to think quickly and deliver a structured response to a surprise question.

Leadership Mineral Wells, sponsored by the MW Chamber of Commerce, is an annual nine-month class and is a way for newcomers and old timers alike to get plugged into the community. Beginning some 30+ years ago, the class delves into the history of the county, it’s education and government.
The Palo Pinto County Commissioners Court voted to implement a burn ban at Monday’s meeting. With the ban in place, residents are prohibited from outdoor burning until the order is lifted, including burning brush/tree piles when clearing land.

As of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the city of Mineral Wells staff provided the following updates regarding Tuesday morning’s storm, which brought high winds and caused damage across the area.
