PALO PINTO COUNTY – Palo Pinto County Judge Shane Long signed a Declaration of Disaster following the devastating tornado that ripped through Gordon, Santo and other parts of the county, May 18.
A tornado warning was issued in the county at 7:21 p.m. Emergency Management Coordinator Chad Jordan said about 30 structures were damaged and residents and businesses were left without power, gas or internet. Several people were injured, but no deaths have been reported, he added.

Gordon ISD suffered extensive damage to its athletic fields and facilities, and cancelled classes for the rest of the week. City officials said the graduation ceremony scheduled for May 30 will not be affected.
District officials are requesting everyone, including staff, stay off campus as they work with insurance adjusters to follow correct cleanup procedures.
“While we are devastated, we are Gordon strong,” the district posted on Facebook. “We will get through this. Sending our prayers and love to each and every one in our community!”
The National Weather Service a tornado watch until 9 p.m., May 19.
