The Mineral Wells Rams baseball team made history this year with great leadership from first year head coach Jacob Clay, as well as a lot of experience from players on the field.

One of those players was Holden Hering, a Ram new to the program after transferring to Mineral Wells during the summer of 2024 when his father, Hart Hering got a job to coach at Mineral Wells ISD. Hart brought with him his two sons, Holden and Hayes and they immediately hit the ground running with all things Rams. Holden was a member of the Rams football team, playing starting tight end and helping the Rams make big plays on the field, and propelling them to a playoff appearance.

But where Holden shines, is the baseball field. He was heavily sought by colleges for his impressive pitching, and great size and strength to add, and ultimately decided to take his talents to Lubbock, TX to play for the Red Raiders, signing his letter of intent in December of 2024 before the start of his senior baseball season at Mineral Wells.

Holden was named Co-MVP of the district at the conclusion of the season last month, and now he has earned another honor, this time a national honor. Hering was named the Rawlings High School Golden Glove winner. In a statement from Coach Clay, Hering was one of only nine players that are selected for this award, and they only select one pitcher, and this year it was Holden Hering. Clay added, “This is one of the top awards you can get as a high school baseball player.”

Aside from being the only pitcher selected, he was the only winner from Texas, He is joined by players from California, Indiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois. To add to this honor, he was also named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region team, as one of only four players from Texas. Other players named to the Region 6 All-Region team reside in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Joining Holden on these lists, is junior Evan O’Conner from Brock, a familiar opponent for the Rams. O’Conner was named as a First Team All-American as a utility player and was the only junior on the list. He also joined Hering as an All-Region team pick.
