MINERAL WELLS – The Mineral Wells City Council will “Consider and take appropriate action regarding appointment to fill vacancy in the office of Council Member Ward 1,” according to its Nov. 5 meeting agenda.

Jerrel Tomlin joined the council in 2016 to represent Ward 1. He is also the lead pastor at the Mineral Wells Church of God.

Tomlin was involved in a fatal wreck, Sept. 22, which claimed the life of Sam Lee, 43, of Mineral Wells. Tomlin’s close proximity to Lee’s motorcycle and the councilman’s failure to control his SUV’s speed were contributing factors in the crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m., Nov. 5, in the City Council Chambers at the City Hall Annex, 115 S.W. First Street.
