MWISD applauds outstanding students

MINERAL WELLS—Trustees saluted nearly 50 of Mineral Wells ISD’s best and brightest at their regular board meeting, May 12.

“We are proud to recognize an outstanding group of students who have represented Mineral Wells ISD at the state level in various UIL and academic competitions this year,” Communications Director Karyn Bullock said before introducing the high achievers. “Their dedication, skill and hard work have brought pride to our district across a wide range of disciplines.”

Track State Qualifier
While representing Ram Nation in track and field, Javawn McKinney placed eighth in the state discus with a throw of 157 feet and four inches.

Powerlifting State Qualifiers
Strength, discipline and determination led these athletes to state, according to district officials.

  • Deandra Hinojosa: second place at regionals, squat 335, bench press 235, dead lift 345, total 935 pounds, placed 18th in state.
  • Shannon Rogers: fourth place at regionals, squat 525, bench press 380, dead lift 495, total 1,400 pounds, placed 18th at state.

TABC Basketball Academic All-State
Kahlea Samples maintained a GPA 92 or above in the classroom and excelled on the court as well.

THSCA Softball Academic All-State These senior Rams are recognized for academic excellence with an overall GPA of 92 or above, athletic abilities and good moral character.
