Rams extend their winning streak with a homecoming victory

In a Thursday night showdown of “Friday night lights” the Rams were host to Fort Worth Eastern Hills for a homecoming game and celebration in front of a packed Ram Stadium.

The Rams controlled the pace of the game, keeping offensive possession for most of the first quarter, capped off with a 1-yard score by Owen Gadd to put the Rams on the board first. Soon after, the Rams hit a rough patch, and the penalties started rolling in, and the second quarter stalled with both teams struggling, despite a score by Eastern Hills. The Rams gave the Highlanders an easy lead when they gave up a safety, adding two points to the Highlanders score, which made the score heading into halftime 8-7 in the Highlanders advantage.

The Rams must have heard quite the speech from the coaches while the fans awaited the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen at halftime. Seniors Aedyn Menchaca and Bella Jones were crowned royalty alongside the rest of the Homecoming court, just before the Rams returned to the field with a new fire and refreshed energy.

In the third quarter, senior running back PR Mendez found his step, scoring two back-to-back touchdowns to put the Rams back in the lead, and then extend that lead. The Rams shared the wealth, and fellow senior running back Kayden Montalvo found the end zone himself after a couple of 50-yard touchdown runs before the end of the third quarter, for the Rams highest scoring quarter of the night. The Rams ended the quarter with a 35-14 lead.

As the fourth quarter wound down, the Rams defense held the Highlanders scoreless, as Montalvo capped off a big night with another touchdown on a short run towards the end of the quarter. Eastern Hills had an opportunity to add more points to the board with the final possession of the game, but the defense continued to come up big, with junior Jaidun Fisher snagging an interception with less than a minute to go to seal the deal on a 42-14 win over their opponents.

Next up, the Rams will travel to Arlington, TX on Thursday, September 19, to play Quinlan Ford at Choctaw Stadium, the former Texas Rangers ballpark as the visiting team with kickoff at 7 p.m
