Rams host practice open for fans

MINERAL WELLS — Last Saturday, the Rams football teams took the field for practice in front of about 75 friends, family, former coaches, and some former players.

The varsity Rams took the early shift of practice, beginning at 9 a.m. with the sub-varsity teams joining them on the field at 10 a.m. Varsity was led on to the field by senior quarterback, Owen Gadd, who immediately began taking snaps from one of the new offensive lineman, looking to take over the starting role at center. Gadd was followed by a couple other key players on this years roster, proving their leadership and eagerness to take the field.

As they began practice, it was evident that there was a drive and determination in this team to be better than they have been in the past. There was an intensity, hustle, and focus from the team as a whole, as well as the coaches. After warming up and some stretching, the Rams practiced some agility off the tackling dummies, followed by some tackling drills, and finally took on their main focus of practice, which was a progression drill and showcased their strength, skill, and field vision as they worked on timing of the snaps, blocking, and running off the block, and eventually working past linebackers and secondary.

The Rams have been using each practice to prepare to take the field against their opponent, and will have two scrimmages to get some game-like prep as well before the real deal starts. Week one will be a match up with Fort Worth Polytechnic in Fort Worth on August 30 at 7 p.m.
