The Rams keep their winning streak alive, as they move to 4-0 to start the season after an exciting win over Quinlan Ford at the former Rangers Ballpark.
Now known as Choctaw Stadium, the ballpark is now home to the Arlington Renegade, the local United Football League team. So, Choctaw is no stranger to football after many years of hosting baseball. The Rams and Panthers kicked off at 7 p.m. and it was a show until the end.
The Rams kicked off to the Panthers and the defense forced a punt quickly, as the Rams offense took over. They drove down the field and QB Owen Gadd hit Preztynn Harrison on a long pass coming up a yard short of the endzone. But PR Mendez broke through and got the touchdown on the very next play. putting the Rams ahead early.
Quinlan Ford took over after a Rams kickoff, but Rams junior Trent Yowell recovered a Panther fumble, giving the Rams the ball back. The Rams wasted no time striking again, as Gadd hit Harrison again on a 30-yard pass where Harrison made it into the endzone, extending the Rams lead 14-0. The Rams struggled in the remainder of the quarter, giving up two Panther touchdowns, and finding themselves on the losing end of 3 consecutive turnovers after losing two fumbles and the Panthers intercepting a pass.
The second quarter was much better for the Rams, where they struck quick to open the quarter on a Kayden Montalvo receiving TD of 75 yards for the score. After exchanging possessions a few more time, the Rams again found the endzone in the second quarter on a run by Jaidun Fisher, but failed the 2-point conversion. Quinlan Ford scored again on a 25-yard run just before the half to make the halftime score 27-21.
The Rams came out of the locker room appearing to have made some adjustments and settled down a bit after the back and forth first half. Both teams began the 3rd quarter on 3-and-out punts, before the Rams found themselves on a scoring drive, capped off by a touchdown run by PR Mendez. That touchdown moved the Rams ahead 34-21 heading into the 4th quarter, where the Rams held Quinlan to just one score, holding them off and holding on to the lead to win the game, 35-28.
Offensive leaders for the Rams were Gadd, who completed 8-of-12 passes, for 156 yards, throwing two touchdown passes, and rushing for 17 of his own yards as well. Rushing leader was Montalvo with 13 carries for 126 yards. He also caught two passes for 86 yards.
