How about Merry Wells last weekend?! Great celebration again for downtown. My compliments to all who worked diligently to put this on.
It takes many hours of hard work to put something of this magnitude into motion. So please don’t take this for granted! And again, don’t ever say “there is nothing to do in Mineral Wells!”
More still to come!
Frontier Christmas on Dec. 12, Santo Hometown Christmas on Dec. 14.
A new one I haven’t mentioned is the Live Nativity presented by the First United Methodist Church on Dec.19. More on this later.
On the Dec. 7, the Bent Bucket Bakery in Lipan will have a visit from Santa Claus from 11-1 p.m. The W. K. Gordon Museum in Mingus (on I-20) will have a Holiday Open House on Sunday, Dec. 15, from 2-4 p.m.
Also on Dec.14, Outfitters of Palo Pinto County will sponsor a 5K run beginning at 8 a.m. Event packet pick up will be 7-7:45 a.m. and a post-run party will go on until 11 a.m. See them at Outfitters for more information. You’ll find the store in The Seaman Building, 200 W. Hubbard St., Suite 100, in Mineral Wells. Call 940-226-8700.
There is so much to do this time of year. All these events plus decorating, shopping, wrapping and football and basketball games are going on for the school kids. Moms and Dads are running through the stores with their hair blown back and their credit card clenched between their teeth trying to find just the right gift for their little ones.
Then there’s Santa. Tell ‘em, don’t tell ‘em… Whew! I’m tired already.
Let’s all take a deep breath. We must never forget why we get to celebrate this time of year. If Jesus had not been born 2,024 years ago, there would be no celebration. No decorations, shopping or Santa Claus.
We were sent a savior, a tiny baby, by way of an unwed mother and a poor carpenter. Jesus came into the world to bring us hope, hope for a better life, hope for a better world, hope for forgiveness and eternal life. By a miracle over 2000 years ago Christmas came to a stable in Bethlehem and we still celebrate that today.
I’d say the proof is in the pudding, that the miracle of all those years ago is still with us. Don’t forget what this holiday is about. Teach your children.
