What to do and where to go
The holidays are rolling on and the things to do just keep coming.
How about that Frontier Christmas last Thursday? It was a great night with music, Palo Pinto County history, hayride, tons of stuff to see and do. Thanks to the Historical Society for sponsoring this event.
On Dec. 14, beginning at 5:45 p.m., The Cliffs at Possum Kingdom Lake will be hosting a lighted boat parade starting at Bluff Creek Marina. Bluff Creek will be the line-up station. For more information call The Cliffs at 940-779-4040.
Don’t forget about the Santo Hometown Christmas also on Dec. 14 and the cookie contest in the evening. The lighted parade starts at 5:30 p.m.
I want to mention the Gordon Longhorns here if I might. As many of you know the Longhorns are headed once again for the State Finals in 6-man football.
But you may not know a little backstory on the success of this Gordon team. This year’s success is in part due to the efforts of quarterback Noah Kostiha, a junior at Gordon High School.
What is interesting about this success is that Noah’s father, Jim Ed Kostiha, led the Longhorns to a state title in 1996, 28 years ago. The 1996 Longhorns, led by the elder Kostiha, defeated Whitharral for the state championship.
The younger Kostiha led the team to the semi-final championship by defeating Abbott 77 to 36. He will lead the Gordon Longhorns to the state finals at ATT Stadium on Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. when they play Whiteface.
Let’s all cheer on those boys and hopefully they will bring that trophy back to Gordon again! Pray for the safety of the players and the fans. Check out the pictures! Note that the father and son wear the same number.
Don’t forget to attend the Live Nativity put on by the First United Methodist Church on Dec. 19. Performances are every 30 minutes between 6 and 8 p.m. on NW First Avenue.
Get that shopping done! It’s almost here!!
